Girl Scout Bronze Award
Highest Award for Girls, Grades 4-5
The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. As you and your team plan and complete your project, you'll develop more confidence, meet new people, and have the kind of fun that happens when you work with other Girl Scouts to make a difference. When you go for the Girl Scout Bronze Award, you represent what Girl Scouts can achieve in their communities. And, of course, you want to do that in a way that's fun
for you - and for everyone else involved too!

Dominique Bell - Bronze Award Recipient 2015
Dominique Bell, a member of Girl Scout Troop 124 and Thalia Elementary student, partnered with The Tidewater Quilters Guild to run a service learning project for Girl Scouts, parents and volunteers to create kid-friendly pillowcases with bright flowers, stripes, polka dots and character prints. An estimated 67 Girl Scouts, parents and the Tidewater Quilters Guild participated in Project Pillowcase on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at A Place for Girls. They made a total of 84 pillowcases, more than 34 pillowcases over Dominique’s initial goal of 50 pillowcases! For Kids VA, a homeless shelter for families in Norfolk, VA, were on hand to receive the pillowcases for the children at the shelter. The pillowcases were given to youth entering For Kids VA, a local homeless shelter. Many families enter the program with little to no belongings. While pillows are provided, a new, colorful, handmade-with-love pillow case is a gift that will go a very long way. It offers a feeling of security, love and sense of identity. It becomes their very own and something they can take with them, no matter where they go. In addition to providing comfort to children in the shelters, girls and boys in our local communities learn valuable sewing skills. These youth experience something special together; they will belong to a group that helped other children.
Service learning combines three keys of Girl Scout leadership experiences: discovering themselves and their values; connecting with others; and taking action to make the world a better place. Project Pillowcase was a huge success!
