An adult volunteer is needed to take the lead on Earth Day to be held May 3rd (May 4th rain date) at Mt Trashmore. Girl Scouts run the children’s area where they create items using recycled materials. The position involves attending meetings with the Virginia Beach Clean Communities Commission each month, creating ideas for crafts, lining up troops to help day of, gathering supplies needed for crafts and attending the walk through prior to event. NEW this year, the event will feature The Relish Cooking Show, which brings Relish—the nation’s largest food magazine—to life in cities across the country. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! Troops or individuals (Cadettes and older) are needed to help at a Girl Scout booth for 2 hour periods helping with some GS crafts. This will also be an opportunity to recruit new leaders and girls. Interested volunteers can email Marcy at [email protected] with the time they want and number of volunteers. Two hour shifts starting at 10 a.m. (10 to noon, Noon to 2, 2 to 4 p.m. ). Volunteers are needed to help with the Council-wide recruitment event on October 6th at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library in Virginia Beach! Over 40 volunteers are needed in order to make this event a success. Volunteers can be girls (Juniors & up) as well as adults. Volunteer Today!

Troop 447 with the West Kempsville Service Unit is hosting a Starstruck Dance where every girl gets to be a star! The dance will be held at Tallwood Elementary School from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on September 27th. Girls will get to participate in several activity stations, design their own star, learn a dance, snap a special photo and join in some fun dancing. Girls are $1.56, tagalongs $2.06, and adults are free. There is a $0.30 online processing fee added to each order. Any registered Girl Scout is invited to attend. Girls attending without a troop leader will need to have a parent stay at the event with them. Troops attending together need to meet the required adult/girl ratio. On Sunday, October 6 from 2 to 4 p.m., Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast, along with WAVY-TV 10, FOX43 and TidewaterParent.com, will be hosting Girls Who Read Lead, a hands-on literacy event, at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library in Virginia Beach. Special guests will include WAVY-TV Anchor Cheryl Tan, Virginian-Pilot Reporter Kathy Adams and author Sharon Cindrich. Members of the community are invited to learn about Girl Scouts and be entertained by special community partner guests, young authors and storytellers. This event is an opportunity to find out more about Girl Scouting and register to become a member of the premiere organization for girls, as well as to help girls understand the importance—and fun—of reading, writing and communicating.
